Wine of the month

Coates wines from McLaren Vale – New Releases, Rave Reviews

wine-of-the-month-2
Duane Coates new releases bowled us over in a recent tasting! One of the quiet achievers of the Australian wine scene is now definitely on the radar. Duane is a font of knowledge (Masters in Oenology, MBA from Adelaide University & soon to become Master of Wine) and his winemaking philosophy is simple: the highest quality fruit from sustainable vineyards (some organic), harvest when properly ripe and a natural winemaking approach (minimal intervention – wild yeasts, unfined, no additions of tannin, enzyme and acid).

A style that bridges the gap between fruit driven Australian style and savoury complex wines of old world Europe.
These superbly crafted, highly impressive wines over-deliver in a big way! In fact all his wines were reviewed in James Halliday’s 2016 Wine Companion were rated 94 and above – What a great achievement! From the extraordinary Sem Sav Blanc 2013 for the white Bordeaux lover, to his stunning Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2013, his delicious Syrah 2013, to his refined Langhorne Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2012. You can’t go wrong here – his wines across the board stand up against wines several times the price! For example his cabernet from Langhorne Creek vineyard also goes into Penfolds 707 to give you an idea of the pedigree of the fruit used … We wholeheartedly recommend these superbly-crafted, well-priced wines.
