Wilson Watervale Riesling 2017
NEW VINTAGE! Classic Clare Valley riesling.
The Wilson family first planted their vineyard at Polish Hill River in 1974 and are now certainly one of the finest growers of Clare Valley Riesling. This Watervale Riesling hails from an old block (35 years old) on red ‘terra rosa’ ironstone soils on limestone contributes fragrance.
A wonderful vintage producing a classic Clare Riesling with lovely fragrance and tropical fruit flavours and great refreshing finish .. And it’s a bargain!
As this is the brand new release, here are some reviews of the previous vintage:
93 points, James Halliday 2018 Australian Wine Companion “From vines grown on a pure limestone base to the east of Watervale. The mouthfeel is exceptional, grippy (in the best sense) and reminiscent of Rheingau, and of great length.”
Tony Love, Under $20 Bargain Wines, The Adelaide Advertiser, March 23, 2017. “If you’re looking for genuine value in Australian white wine, this is an indication of what amazing treats you’ll find. Fruit from a band of vineyards at the east of Clare’s hallowed Watervale sub-region offers all the variety’s hallmark delights: attractive lime, leaf and cordial aromas that spill into the tasting, all couched with a citrus-pithy mouthfeel, lip-smackingly fresh yet with a fulfilling depth of character overall.”
92 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front “This is the best Wilson Watervale I’ve had in recent years … Lavender, lime and apple with a touch of smokiness. Juicy flavour, juicy acidity, light chalk dust texture, ripe limey length. There’s an intriguing kind of liquorice root flavour through the wine, though that could just be me. Goes now. Delicious.”
