Description
The wines of Clare Wine Co are all about regionality and pure flavours – the taste of Clare. With fruit from Watervale and Polish Hill River there’s a sense of place to be found here.
Clare Wine Co was established in 2008 by the owners of premium Barossa producers Kaesler Wines. Winemakers from Kaesler, Stephen Dew and Reid Bosward are responsible for producing the wines under the Clare Wine Co brand. Varieties focused on are riesling, shiraz and cab sauvignon. The vineyards were carefully selected due to their unique soil formations and the micro climates found in the respective vineyards. Riesling excels in Watervale and the Shiraz and Caberent from Polish Hill represent some of the finest fruit found in the region. The oldest vines are 43 years old. Polish Hill vineyard is a 30 acre (12ha) block with 10 acres of Cab Sav and 20 acres of Shiraz that was planted in 1999. The Watervale vineyard consists of 29 acres broken up into several varieties.
Pale straw in colour. Fresh citrus with white nectarine and floral notes. Candied green apples with tangy acid and a balanced, structured palate for longevity. “For me Riesling is one of the best summer wines to drink and with this one not having the acid too high it gets the two thumbs up in the drinkability test,” says winemaker Stephen Dew.
This fine dry watervale riesling is a bargain for quality and value… Do not miss out here!
