Teusner The Riebke Shiraz 2018
DOZEN BUY. Barossa Bargain!
This is a terrific full bodied expression of Barossa shiraz (all Ebenezer- northern Barossa fruit from the Riebke brothers vineyard) – it’s brimming with ripe flavour yet balanced by refreshing acidity. Again a bargain for quality and value!
Winemaker Kym Teusner said of this wine “With the exception of what I prefer to refer to as the ‘challenging’ 2011 vintage, we’ve been served up a good run of vintages in the Barossa for many years ranging from the ‘very good’ to the ‘bloody outstanding’. And as we start to taste our way through our latest vintage reds, we’re increasingly of the opinion that this vintage is up there with the best of them…. The Riebke tradition continues on with another cracking
year and wine…rich, abundant flavour and serious drinkability whilst also being easy on the pocket. The wine is jam packed with Barossa Shiraz flavours….plums, black fruits and warm spices of cinnamon, nutmeg and 5 spice. There’s a touch of mid palate sweetness, some mocha and black olive and the soft tannins are integrated seamlessly through the mid palate. We’ve taken it easy on the oak to allow the rich dark fruit to take center stage. This is a plush, vibrant wine of immense generosity and, in my opinion incredible value.”
91 points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front “Teusner’s Riebke Shiraz is 10% grenache. It’s red berried, sweet, generous and soft. Red licorice territory, just tipping into kirsch. A mouthful of fruit flavour, you could say.”
