Teusner The Gentleman Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
DOZEN BUY… “a show-stopper at a teeny price..”
Kym Teusner has turned me right around with this fine cabernet (have never been convinced about Barossa cabernet until now!). Fruit sourced from dry grown vineyard in High Eden Valley (500 metres) to produce cabernet with cascading fruit, layers and fine tannins, structure and texture. Stars aligned for this fine cabernet and we love the price!
Winemaker Kym Teusner ...”I love this wine…packed with dark and black fruit flavours, elegant but a wine that has real energy about it…and while the flavours on the palate are rich & inviting, there is a savoury leanness to the wine’s structure that makes it such a good drink.”
Tyson Stelzer .. “David Forrest’s vineyard enjoys one of the highest elevations in the Barossa, yielding a cabernet of density and intensity, layered with cassis, blackcurrants, liquorice and dark chocolate. It declares the depth and glossy succulence of great Eden Valley fruit, yet all the while tangy, controlled and finely structured, with vibrant, high altitude acidity and supple, finely poised tannins. A show-stopper at a teeny price, enticing and persistent.”
On the 2016 vintage, Jane Faulkner wrote for James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion … 93 points “Exuberant purple-garnet hue; laced with blackberries, currants and plenty of leafy freshness with cinnamon, licorice root and creamy coffee-like oak flavours – no new oak though, aged 1 year in used barrels. Fuller-bodied with such approachable tannins, some grip, just a tad warm on the finish.”
