Tellurian Rose 2019
SPECIAL 6 PACK BUY. Fine dry Rose from Heathcote
Tellurian Wines certainly is a rising star of Victoria’s Heathcote wine region. Established in 2002 by Ian Hopkins and planting vineyards on western slopes of Mt Camel range overlooking township of Tolleen. Since first vintage produced in 2008 they have certainly hit the ground running. The ancient deep rich Cambrian soils of Heathcote and meticulous attention in the vineyard and winery under Tobias Ansted since 2006 are paying dividends – winning the coveted 5 star winery rating by James Halliday’s Wine Companion.
Notes from the winery:
Inspired by the light, dry, savoury roses from Provence and Bandol, Tellurian Rosé combines grenache and shiraz for soft texture and light red fruit flavour, with mouvèrdre and nero d’avola for dry, fresh acidy and savoury influence.
Shiraz (40%), grenache (24%), nero d’avola (22%) and mourvèdre (14%) from our Tellurian vineyard growing in Cambrian soils formed over 500 million years. Deep, rich, decomposed greenstone rock and limestone with soil depths up to 2m allow roots to reach deep, while relatively low fertility controls vigour and yield.
Grapes hand picked and gently whole bunch pressed, then the juice was fermented in seasoned French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks.
Pale salmon colour with rose hues. Fresh aromas red berry, cranberry, red currant are complimented by savoury mineral characters of flinty and struck match. Red berry fruit flavours carry onto the palate and combine with dry,
savoury, soft chalky texture. Alc 13.1%
91 points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front “Juicy style. Ample sweet fruit but it finishes dry and well shaped. Orange, redcurrant, cranberry and sweet spice. Lots of orange, quite sweet/ripe in its flavour profile. Remains pale and fresh. Highly enjoyable.”
90 points, Huon Hooke “Light salmon-pink colour. The bouquet shows some attractive smoky toasty development and a suggestion of smoked charcuterie. Quince paste later. It’s intense and focused but light on the tongue, crisp and dry and refined, with a long tail. This is a rosé I could drink. It has intensity, the flavour is appealing, and it maintains the interest.”
