We love this rich south Australian cabernet for the staggering quality and price!
Longhop is a winemaking venture between high school friends, Tim Freeland and Dominic Torzi (of leading Eden Valley winery, Torzi Matthews) and these guys have taken the notion of overdelivering (wine quality for price) to another galaxy!
Sourcing precious old vine survival plantings of the 1950s, and coupled with our non-interventional approach to winemaking, Longhop Wines found it’s provenance in handcrafting the lush, generous and full flavours of yesteryear.
Whole berry ferment in five ton open top fermenters with soft pump overs and minimal hand plunging. On skins for six days, then basket pressed into young seasoned oak with ferment finishing off in barrel. Matured in French oak. Two rackings prior to blending and bottling.
Full of flavour, with mulberries, blackcurrants and fine ripe tannins. Drink now to 7+ years.
90 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front “Reliable as ever. Juicy, blackcurrant and red fruits, raisin and chocolate, cedar and mint. Good flavour, light but sure tannin, a savoury toasty edge, and a good finish. In short, it delivers the goods.”
