Description
The Dorigati family has been cultivating grapes since 1858 in the village of Mezzocorona in Trentino. They own 5.5 hectares of vineyards which are managed by Paolo and Michele Dorigati, whilst a further 15 hectares are grown by local farmers.
The vineyards are located in the hills at the foot of the Mezzocorona mountain and on the Piana Rotaliana where the fertility and drainage of the soil combine to provide the right nutrients and water balance.
Plantings include Teroldego, Lagrein, Cabernet, Chardonnay, Rebo and Pinot Grigio.
The Teroldego grape is at the heart of the Dorigati operation, and theirs is an outstanding example of this unique wine.
Teroldego is a difficult grape to grow and to make wine from, and doesn’t seem to adapt well in other parts of Italy.
Typical characteristics of the wine include herbs, spices, strawberry and bell pepper aromas and flavours.
The Piana Rotaliana and its hilly terrain around the Noce river mean the vines are grown in quite gravelly, pebble-based soils; giving the grapes a measurable intensity and a quality that can be traced back to their soils.
