Domaine Chanson Le Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2019
SPECIAL BUY 6 or more. Excellent vintage, intense aromas and freshness.
Domaine Chanson is one of the great historic producers in Burgundy. Founded in 1750, they are one of only six producers in the region still remaining from the 18th century and earlier.
Most critical to today, Chanson was purchased by Family Champagne Group Societé Jacques Bollinger in 1999 and has been dramatically restored to once again become one of Burgundy’s top estates.
Chanson has extensive holdings of over 111 acres of exclusively Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in the heart of Burgundy. This includes 62 acres of Premier Cru vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, making them one of the leading Premier Cru specialists in the appellation. They produce approximately 17,000 cases of domaine wine per year from their vineyards by farming organically, and harvesting all grapes and vinifying all wines, even for contracted vineyards.
The Chanson estate produces over half of its own fruit requirements and all the Estate owned vineyards are farmed organically. The other grapes are sourced from growers selected according to their commitment to quality in alignment with Chanson’s quality Charter. Individual plot selection produces fruit which also remains separate through the fermentation and ageing processes. The soil is ploughed to encourage the vines to extend their roots more deeply and therefore better express the typicity of the Terroir. All the grapes are hand-picked at optimum maturity.
“This beautiful house from Beaune … has now fully found its mark and style. It competes with the best thanks to their wines with clear and pure style, both white and red. A state of the art winery and the relevant advice of Jean-Pierre Confuron, in the vineyards as well as in the winery, explain the very clear expression across the wide range of Domaine wines.” REVUE DU VIN de FRANCE -Guide Edition 2012 (France’s leading wine magazine)
Careful selection of grapes in the vineyard and winery have produced exceptional red wines with very pure aromas. Grapes are exclusively sourced from select vineyards in the Côte de Nuits, from plots of Domaine Chanson and from terroirs located in the south of the Côte de Beaune.
About the 2019 vintage in Burgundy … “Another great vintage ending in ‘9’ that was hot and very dry yet produced fresh, elegant and concentrated wines. Moreover, it produced some genuinely superb wines.’ Burghound, January 2021. “In short, 2019 is a superb vintage, and these are wines that all Burgundy lovers are going to want to secure for their cellars.” William Kelley, The Wine Advocate, January 2021.
From the winemaker … “The red wines of 2019 are crunchy and complex with a beautiful fruit combination. Bright red colour. Scents of violet mixed with intense aromas of ripe black cherries and spices. Complex and well-structured. Very pure fruit. Deep and tight texture. Elegant tannins. Long and generous finish.”
90 points, Wine Enthusiast “… a richly dense wine that is packed with succulent black fruits and freshened with acidity. It is a satisfying wine, ripe and with a balanced structure.”
This is super smart Bourgogne rouge.
