Mezzacorona was founded in 1904 as the first organized wine growers co-operative comprised of the top wine growers in Northern Italy. This elegant sparkling wine is made using the most important grapes cultivated in Trentino Adige, from vineyards at the foothill of the Dolomites, at elevations between 400 and 800 metres.
60% Chardonny, 30% Pinot Bianco, 10% Muller Thurgau.
Grapes were handpicked and harvested and after destemming and crushing, soft pressed to extract only the aromatic compounds. After natural clarification, fermentation is done at controlled low temps for 10-11 days. The wine matures for 4-6 months on lees. It is made using the Charmat method, the same used to produce Prosecco.
The bouquet displays rich and intense aromas of fresh fruits like red apple, pear, white peach and melon, delicate pineapple with an elegant note of wild mountain rose. A soft mousse with peristent bubbles and smooth acidity.
‘Italian Glacial Bubbly’ perfectly evokes the alpine origins of Mezza di Mezzacorona, alluding to the pure, clean, refreshing qualities of the wine, while drier than most Prosecco it has a lovely aromatic fruit freshness with a bright acidity. 12% alc.
Ralph Kyte-Powell, Good Living SMH, 6/11/2018 “From northern Italy’s hilly Trentino region, this is a youthful, grapey, lightly muscat-scented wine with light yellow-green colour and a foaming mousse. It’s fresh, light and attractively fruity with a trace of sweetness leading into a clean finish. A good aperitif style. Cork; 12 per cent alcohol.”
