“I was struck by the sheer beauty of the wines I tasted at Domaine de l’Arlot. The 2010s are stunning… I urge readers to check them out.”Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate
“You’ll find great purity of fruit here and graceful elegance, rather than muscle and power. They model Pinot Noir, burgundy-style, to perfection.”Andrew Jefford, The New France
Domaine de l’Arlot, with its hillside vineyards and 19th century gardens, has what many consider to be the most beautiful estate in Burgundy. Since the late 1980’s this producer has also been responsible for some of the prettiest red Burgundies going around. The perfume, silkiness and flickering clarity of these wines is born of the l’Arlot vineyards, and the Prémeaux terroir in general. Prémeaux has always stood apart from the rest of Nuits-Saint-Georges and made wines that are altogether more fine and elegant than those produced further North, around the town itself. L’Arlot brings the finesse of this terroir to the fore with their approach to wine growing and elevage. Biodynamic farming, perfect, well-sorted fruit, gentle extraction and whole-bunch use all play their part. Every step from vineyard to bottle is tailored to underline purity and finesse.
This is one of the three monopole vineyards at the heart of this Domaine. It is also one of the great terroirs of Nuits as made clear by its position, so close to Les Saint Georges (the full name of the vineyard is in fact Clos des Forets St-Georges). L’Arlot only uses vines planted before 1982 for this bottling – the younger vines are declassified into the 1er Les Petits Plets cuvee. The older vines are vinified in three parcels (before blending), subject to soil type. This is the deepest wine in the l’Arlot stable although it remains a wine of great finesse. The 2010 is beautifully pitched with lifted, spicy, forest fruit aromatics and a wonderfully vibrant palate with bright, tangy, flowing fruit bound by the most refined tannins you will find south of Vosne-Romanée. Gorgeous red Burgundy.
“Outstanding. The intense floral nuances are also evident here as they add breadth to the pungently earthy dark berry fruit aromas. As is typically the case, this is quite serious, even brooding with rich, dense and powerful medium weight plus flavors that possess more prominent tannins and outstanding length on the mouth coating, dusty, austere and impressively long finish. This superb effort will require plenty of cellar time to arrive at its apogee but should be well worth the wait.” 93 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com issue 49
“The 2010 Nuits St. Georges Clos des Forets St-Georges is striking. Freshly cut flowers, spices and red berries are some of the many notes that are woven together. Though deceptively understated at first, the Forets St-Georges has plenty of underlying Nuits structure. A crystalline, totally pure finish laced with rose petals, spices and licorice wraps around the palate in stunning style.” 93-95 points, Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate #199 Limited from fabulous vintage
