Duane Coates is one of the quiet achievers of the Australian Wine Scene (Masters in Oenology and an MBA from Adelaide University & soon to become a Master of Wine). His winemaking philosophy is simple: the highest quality fruit from sustainable vineyards (some organic), harvest when properly ripe and a natural winemaking approach (minimal intervention – wild yeasts, no additions of tannin, enzyme, acid, single racking, unfined, unfiltered, low sulphur) small batch winemaking, traditional 1/2 tonne Mori basket press to ensure velvety tannin profile.

Duane’s challenge to make a quality, economical, every day drinking wine was ‘La Petite Rouge’. All his wines over-deliver but this takes the quality to value proposition to another realm!
2015 was an excellent growing season with ideal ripening conditions in South Australia. To give you an idea of the pedigree of fruit here – predominantly (66% Shiraz) hails from the iconic Langhorne Creek growers Joe & Rosco Borrett from their 45 year old dry grown vineyard (also goes to Drew Noon & Penfolds that no doubt are marketed for several times the price of Duane’s little libation here). Duane has perfect pitch with the way he has deftly crafted this wine … No doubt thanks to 30 odd% fruit from Kuitpo in the Adelaide Hills with plenty of high toned red fruits to balance the dark power of Langhorne Creek. 12 months maturation in old French oak (less new oak and utilising less premium bottles were his recipe to keeping costs down). 14% Alc
We are thrilled to have the last remaining stock of this 2015 vintage straight from the winery’s cellar…. Suffice to say a few years in bottle has enhanced this harmony of this wine further.. This gorgeous full bodied offering is a perfectly proportioned expression of power and elegance dark plum, raspberry, dark spices and mocha. This is a joy and yes its dangerously easy to drink (it’s remarkably light on its feet)…. words do not do it justice except to say the quality in the bottle is of a wine of several times the price.
