Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino 2016

The diversity of their soils, exposures, microclimates, and vine age creates the identity of our wines. Wines produced by us are the consequence of how Sangiovese in Montalcino can give exceptional unrepeatable results, distinguished by a unique quality stemming from the combination of a territory. Our grapes are the product of a variety of Sangiovese Grosso taken from our Cerretalto vineyard and from a long process of reproduction and planting of vineyards on the various slopes that give varying results that all spring originally from Sangiovese in Casanova di Neri.
The Estate Brunello di Montalcino, also known as the “White Label” is sourced from vineyards around the town of Montalcino all with varying aspects and soil types. The wine is aged only in very large oak, up to 5000L. Every year the sum of the parts equals a consistent, balanced and relatively accessible Brunello that still retains the complexity and mineralite associated with the great wines of Montalcino. A gorgeous wine.
“If I had to think of one way to universally describe the majority of wines from the 2016 vintage, I would offer that they are like a well-muscled black stallion in its prime. They are dark yet radiant, expressive, nearly explosive at times, yet pure, poised and structured. These are wines that capture your imagination; and no matter how youthfully tense they are today, you simply can’t help but revisit a glass over and over again; because in many cases, the aromatics alone are intoxicating. I frankly cannot remember the last time I tasted young wines from Montalcino that possessed such symmetry from start to finish… But now the big question is: Do the 2016s live up to our expectations? Oh, yes; they certainly do… Whether you consider your palate for Brunello to be international or traditional, you really owe it to yourself to check in with Casanova di Neri. 94 points, Monica Larner, www.robertparker.com “This classic expression displays raspberry, tar, hazelnut, dried fig, asphalt and some crushed chalk. The wine is streamlined and compact in terms of mouthfeel, giving us an accessible Brunello from a benchmark Montalcino estate.”
94 points, Eric Guido, www.vinous.com “Casanova di Neri’s 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of pleasurable contrasts but also massive structure. Ripe dark fruits and autumnal spices offset savory herbs and hints of animal musk. It enters the mouth silky, cooling and lifted, with a noticeable inner sweetness to its polished cherry/berry flavors, but it then sways more toward inner earth, minerals and grippy tannins.”
