Bruno Rocca Langhe Nebbiolo Fralù 2019
Is this the finest Nebbiolo bargain of Piedmont?
“… Bruno Rocca is without question one of the hottest estates in Barbaresco right now. And my feeling is that Francesco Rocca (Bruno’s son and Luisa’s brother) is just getting started.” Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media.
In the late 1950s, Bruno Rocca’s father Francesco, and his wife Maria Adelaide purchased a vineyard in Rabajà and moved there from the centre of Barbaresco. This marked the beginning, in particular for Bruno, who from a very early age began to view the grapes as the true expression of the land. In 1978 Bruno decided to carve out a new direction, rather than selling the grapes to large Barbaresco producers, Bruno began to sell bottled wine on the Italian and world stage. The philosophy of wine as the natural expression of the Barbaresco territory was widely appreciated, and with the estate’s gradual growth came the purchase of new plots of land and the expansion of the cellar, which continues today with Bruno’s children Francesco and Luisa now both closely involved in all aspects of the wine production and sales respectively. Organic farming with certification ; 100% estate grown fruit; minimal intervention and sparing use of French oak usually less than 10% new oak across production. The Bruno Rocca company philosophy is clear, as Rocca himself affirms: “Wine is the mirror and soul of the ground, and the territory, if protected and defended, it will never let you down.”
100% Nebbiolo from Barbaresco vines (younger vines) 10 months French oak (no new oak).Fralu was named after Bruno’s children Francesco & Luisa. 2019 (a fine Nebbiolo vintage) is a very smart rendition .. lovely aromatics, balance and structure … Don’t miss this ‘ Baby Barbaresco’ here of outstanding quality.
Brand new vintage is here! Reviews for 2016 … 91+ The Wine Advocate “The 2016 Langhe Nebbiolo Fralù is another wine that I would add to my growing collection of excellent value buys from the 2016 vintage. Fruit from the youngest vines makes this wine, and fermentations are executed at cooler temperatures compared to the Nebbiolo for Barbaresco (at 24 degrees Celsius compared to 30 degrees). This wine boasts crisp lines and bright fruity tones of blueberry and crunchy cherry. In order to keep the acidity high, no leaves are removed in the vineyards during summer.”
