AIX Rosé 2018
From humble beginnings in 1880 as a truffle orchard, the vineyard was converted over to vines in the early 1900’s making it today one of the largest Domaines in the AOP Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence area.
The vineyard is situated 420m above sea-level and aspect is south-west which allows it to receive around 300 days of sunshine. Farmed organically, the AIX Rose is made from the top blend of Maison Saint Aix.
Aix’s focus is to create the best possible rose in the world. Its generous taste, harmonious structure and long finish make it the perfect rose to be shared all year round.
The highly anticipated new 2017 release (Grenache 60%, Syrah 20%, Cinsault 20%) emerged after a long harvest which began with Syrah on the 6th of September and concluded with harvesting Grenache on October 5th. The different levels of maturity of the grapes, due to spring rain, led to a long harvest. The good weather conditions during the harvest allowed overtime for optimum control of the maturity.
The fruit quality was superb; the berries were perfectly ripe and full of varietal flavours. Grapes were picked as early as 4am, teo ensure that their delicate aromas, flavours and freshness were captured. Fermentation at low temperatures preserved the aromas of the fruit. A state of the art production process minimized the influence of oxygen, establishing an easy to drink wine with finishes of red berries, grapeftuit and honey.
From the winery: “A fragrant and well balanced wine, AIX’s hypnotising salmon pink colour reveals a fruity freshness and premium rosé. The nose is fresh and fragrant, delicate yet youthful and offers classy notes of watermelon, strawberries and flowers. Created using 30% of rosé bleeding and 70% direct pressing. Fermented between a cool 11 and 13 degrees Celsius, AIX Rosé is elegant, generous and tasty and the perfect wine to drink all day long.
Our dedication and passion towards making AIX known as the best Provence rosé has been acknowledged with several gold awards over the past years. Furthermore, AIX cemented its pedigree, when it was awarded the gold medal to become the most celebrated rosé in the world at the ‘Mondial du Rosé 2016’ (International Rosé Wine Competition) in Cannes.”

As yet unreviewed but check out these glowing reviews for the 2017 from international critics … 90 points, Josh Reynolds, Vinous Media “Vivid orange-pink. Fresh and focused on the nose, displaying intense red berry and citrus fruit scents and a sexy floral overtone. Dry and nervy in style, offering sappy raspberry and blood orange flavours that flesh out steadily with air. Shows very good energy on the finish, which leaves lavender and dusty mineral notes behind.”

Wine Enthusiast “This is a smooth, beautifully ripe wine. It is well balanced, with crisp red and orange fruits adding a refreshing background to the spice and acidity”
93 points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review “The colour is youthful salmon pink-purple, the aroma sweetly spicy with raspberry and background dried herb nuances. The palate is soft and fruity, flavoursome and charming, with a faint flick of sweetness in harmony with the wine. It finishes clean and dry, with richness and length. An impressive rosé which is drinking at its best now.”
