Clark Estate Single Vineyard Awatare Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2009

The 2009 Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc was recently listed in Gourmet Traveller Wine (Apr/May 2010) as a Top 100 New Release. “Plenty of pure, focused fruit flavours with succulent tropical fruits contrasting with red capsicum and a hint of nettles. A ripe example of the Awatare style. A stylish wine with power. 91 points. 4 stars."
Their 2008 release was also listed as a Best Buy under $20 in Oct /Nov Australian Gourmet Traveller wine. The 2009 vintage was a better season overall, long and consistent.

Clark Estate from Marlborough, New Zealand is a boutique family run winery, making unique single vineyard wines from the Awatere Valley in Marlborough, NZ. This low yielding vineyard uses sustainable practices to produce fine aromatic whites. The Awatare Valley is renowned for its distinctive minerally, stone-fruit driven style of wines. It is also famous for its north-westerly wind which in summer dries out the soil which naturally controls yield as the vines shut down to protect themselves from the strong winds. Also the lack of underground water in the Awatare’s free draining glacial gravel soils limits the yield of its vines resulting in intense, concentrated flavours. Hot days and very cool nights means ripe fruit with fresh, crisp acidity and great balance.
