Teusner The Independent Shiraz Mataro 2010

“The irony of independence - you rarely achieve it standing alone” ... so the slogan says on this fine blend of Barossa Shiraz (50%) and Mataro (50%) - a reference to the grape growers who have helped Teusner achieve greatness. The fruit was sourced from low yielding, ancient vines in the Northern Barossa – Ebenezer, Kalimna and Moppa. Kym Teusner says “As always the winemaking is hands off and we let the fruit tell its own story. The result is a brooding, complex wine that sings of the earth from where it came and the toil of our growers that tend the vines....two things that we at Teusner are very proud of.” According to Kym “2010 was not far behind 09 and a great vintage in the Barossa ... a long season with plenty of structure" He thinks this 2010 will give the 09 ( trophy Barossa Show) a run for its money.

"The 2010 is a 50/50 split between the two varieties and shows nicely ripened, concentrated red fruits and darker, more savoury black liquorice. The palate's framed in dark mocha flavour, with fine and ripe tannins at the core - quite juicy, lithe and fresh."
