Montevertine Pergole Torte 2007
Montevertine at Radda in the heart of the Chianti hills has been cultivated since 11th century. In 1967, Sergio Manetti bought Montevertine as a holiday house. He lovingly restored the house to its original state, planted 2 hectares of wine, & set up a small cellar. The idea was to produce some wine for friends and customers-the reputation of the wine spread quickly gaining a loyal following. Enjoyed cult-like status in Italy since 1971.

"(100% sangiovese; 13% alcohol) Deep, full red. Complex, gorgeous nose melds ripe red cherry, tobacco, iron, cinnamon and a floral element. Suave and bright, but fatter and deeper than the Montevertine, with perfectly integrated acidity to buffer its voluptuous texture and captivating flavors of ripe red cherry, spicy plum, liquorice and underbrush. Finishes broad, with compellingly mouthcoating tannins and outstanding length. A great wine and another example of the incredible heights sangiovese can achieve in the right hands and in the right terroirs, such as Radda, where Montevertine
is located." Ian d'Agata 97 points

"The 2007 Le Pergole Torte (Sangiovese) is a rock star wine, and then some. The sheer integrity and purity of the fruit is breathtaking, as is frankly everything about this wine. Wonderfully rich, deep and seductive, the 2007 Pergole Torte shows gorgeous clarity and polish, stunning aromatics and the finest of tannins. It needs time to develop the breadth of its full potential but is strikingly beautiful even at this admittedly early stage. The 2007 Pergole Torte shows the heights Sangiovese can reach. It will give even the finest Grand Cru Burgundies a run for their money. Simply put, the 2007 is a wonderful counterpart to the profound and much firmer 2006. It is a must-have bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2032. 96 points"
