Montevertine 2007

Montevertine at Radda in the heart of the Chianti hills has been cultivated since 11th century. In 1967, Sergio Manetti bought Montevertine as a holiday house. He lovingly restored the house to its original state, planted 2 hectares of wine, & set up a small cellar. The idea was to produce some wine for friends and customers. The reputation of the wine spread quickly gaining a loyal following and has enjoyed a cult-like status in Italy since 1971.

"A mainly sangiovese wine with small amounts of canaiolo nero and colorino; 13% alcohol). Bright red. Wonderfully floral, pure aromas of sour red cherry, cranberry and violet. Bright and minerally on entry, then tight and youthfully acidic in the middle, with hints of marzipan, fresh red berries and citrus fruits. Boasts an exhilarating sugar/acid balance and a firm tannic spine, finishing juicy and bright, with a crunchy texture and noteworthy precision. This exceptional wine explodes with perfume and flavour. Even better than the great 2001, this is a true monument to the greatness that can be achieved by sangiovese blended with canaiolo nero."
