Ashton Hills Reserve Pinot Noir 2009

This is Ashton Hills' flagship wine, 100% estate grown fruit made from all 18 Pinot clones, (only three were used in the hot 2008 vintage). Matured in 100% new French oak barriques and a third of blend was whole bunch fermented. It is designed to be cellared and is best drunk after at least 5 years.

This serious wine is tightly knit and closed on opening but with a little air it revealed beautiful aromatics, profound energy, depth of flavour, complexity, and finesse. With fine ripe tannins and plenty of grip, it has the goods and a terrific future. Patience and a few years in the cellar will be hugely rewarding!
