95 POINTS - James Halliday's 2011 Australian Wine Companion. 5 RED STAR WINERY. “Brilliant green-yellow; the bright bouquet does not fully prepare you for the energy and drive of the long palate, built around grapefruit, nectarine and crunchy acidity. Rating 95“ James Halliday. According to Stephen George: “With a climate similar to parts of Burgundy it was no surprise that Chardonnay was first planted during the Adelaide Hills’ wine revival in the early 1980’s…… Our own chardonnay vines are more than 25 years old and our winemaking aim is for a complex style of chardonnay with clean and healthy new-world fruit complemented by old-world wine-making techniques….was made from dry-grown, low yielding grapes with fermentation in new and seasoned French oak using natural and cultured yeasts. This was followed by the avoidance of malolactic-fermentation, stirring of and maturation on yeast lees.” Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front:" ....It manages the balance between sharp, tangy acids and fine smooth mouthfeel quite beautifully. It’s lemony and nectarine-like, and yet there’s a smooth, creamy sense to the mid-palate. Add excellent, tangy thrust through the finish and you have a wine destined to drink very well, once it hits maturity. 93 Points."
