James Kellie (formerly of Howard Park) has done incredibly well here producing extraordinary intensity of fruit in this sauvignon blanc, semillon blend-100% free run juice from fruit sourced from best vineyard sites of Denmark, Albany and Mt Barker in WA's cool climate Great Southern region). Aroma / flavours of gooseberries, lemons, grassiness and tropical fruit. 2008 was a cooler vintage than 2007 revealing mouthwatering purity of fruit and balance. This is top shelf and an absolute steal.

This is Margaret River wine at it's best - intense tropical passion fruit and zest. Multiple trophy and gold medal winner with past vintages. Sauvignon Blanc does not get better than this. Leading Margaret River winery, Arlewood Estate’s Sussex Loc cuvee is an extraordinary wine: - A blend of their best semillon and sauvignon blanc with 18 mths maturation in French oak. Succulent peaches, nectarines, lemon curd and almond toasty french oak. Concentrated depth of fruit and beautifully balanced oak and lingering lemon kick on the finish. Blue Gold Sydney International wine show. This wine has often been very favourably compared to Bordeaux heavyweights at several times the price. If you enjoy Grand Cru Chablis you will love this wine for it's lazer like citrus zing. 2006 was a top vintage for white wine in Margaret River ( too cold for reds!) so this wine is more steely and racy than the 2005. Daryl Groom (former Penfolds winemaker) has done well here! Intense mouthfilling tropical fruit cascading from refreshing citrus to pineapple and passionfruit with balanced salad green characters. More tropical and less pungent in style than NZ sauvignon blanc. 100 % estate grown fruit from their Lenswood vineyard in the Adelaide Hills. The '09 vintage is being hailed as one of the best for Adelaide Hills in yonks!- the pefect vintage, a long hot season but no heatwave like in 08 - so no disappointments here! This is Sancerre at it's best! Sancerre is that appellation located on the Loire River ..almost smack bang in the centre of France. Jean and his wife Ginette own 13 hectares at Verdigny and their family have been growing grapes for for 10 generations. This unwooded sauvignon blanc reminds me of preserved lemons, passionfruit. ..it's flinty, minerally and smacks plenty of tang. Quality is so fine..this wine is worthy of Grand Vin status. Leading Victorian producer, Scotchmans Hill has sourced some great fruit from Marlborough to producer this fine drop Huon Hooke got very excited about the 2008 wine and said “Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc can be bought very cheaply today but few are this good. A ripe example of the Awatare style. A stylish wine with power. 91 points. 4 stars." Their 2008 release was also listed as a Best Buy under $20 in Oct /Nov Australian Gourmet Traveller wine. The 2009 vintage was a better season overall, long and consistent. What amazes me is the balance and complexity of this Sauvignon Blanc which held its head high when we tasted it alongside Isabel Sauvignon Blanc which retails for $28. Staggering quality and value. Duane Coates is one of the quiet achievers of the Australian Wine Scene ( Masters in Oenology and an MBA from Adelaide University & soon to become a Master of Wine). His winemaking philosophy is simple: the highest quality fruit from sustainable vineyards ( some organic), harvest when properly ripe and a natural winemaking approach (minimal intervention - wild yeasts, unfined, no additions of tannin, enzyme and acid). Huon Hooke said: “ Every wine I’ve tasted of McLaren Vale’s Duane Coates has been excellent…” Highly impressive wines – a style that bridges the gap between fruit driven Australian style and savoury complex wines of old world Europe.
