sydney cbd wine tasting best of wa and barossa

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Back in June we held a fantastic tasting of two exciting new producers that we are thrilled to now stock here at The Vine Press, online wine retailer based in Sydney. Harewood Estate from WA’s Great Southern region and Teusner Wines from the Barossa.

I am just back from wine adventures in the Great Southern wine region, WA (5 hours drive south-east of Perth). One of the highlights was visiting Harewood Estate in Denmark. It is rare to get excited about every wine you taste but it happened here! James Kellie cut his teeth as winemaker at Howard Park before he and his family purchased the vineyard in 2003. Hard work is paying off with extraordinary success in 5 years receiving trophies galore and the elusive 5 red star rating (the highest recognition possible from Australia’s most influential wine critic James Halliday awarded to only the top 6.5% of wineries).

We also showcased Kym Teusner’s Barossa wines. Kym’s Rhone inspired reds are so impressive he was recently crowned Gourmet Traveller Young Winemaker of Year. After cutting his teeth for years at Torbreck and Rolf Binder, his recipe is simple it’s all about the ingredients! Top notch fruit from low yielding non-irrigated old Barossa vines

It was a fun night of tasting, cheese platters and special offers on these great wines in the heart of the Sydney CBD.

We’ll keep you posted on our next event.  Watch our website thevinepress.com for details.
