Featuring this month - Cigale … From the makers of Spinifex.
Cigale is the second label of master craftsman Pete Schell from Spinifex Wines in the Barossa. Pete and his French born wife Magali have a love for traditional mediteranean varieties (particularly from the South of France). They seek finesse and complexity (aromatics, line and length) in their wines - they are not interested in making blockbuster wines. Sourcing small parcels of fine fruit from family growers and fermenting parcels of wine separately rather than pooling them (a very French technique). This means more ingredients to play with and absolute precision for blending. We have been hugely impressed with the quality and price on these wines!
Cigale Rose 2010 RRP $23 Our Price $17.99 Pete Schell is the master of the dry provencal style rose. Whilst this rose is a touch more open and forward in style it retains the trademark savouriness of the Spinifex Rosé. This gorgeous wine is a bargain. “…. a blend of Grenache/Mourvedre with fresh red berry/cherry aromas and flavours to the fore, notes of spice in the background; the finish is crisp, dry and long, the aftertaste clean and fresh. ” 90 points, James Halliday, 2012 Wine Companion. Pete and Magali say .. “Made famous in the Rhone Valley, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier also have an affinity for the vineyard, soils and climate of the Barossa Valley.
